Symplectic Field Theory 8 – August 8-12 2016

There has been a preliminary announcement for the 8th Workshop on Symplectic Field Theory, which will take place at Humboldt University in Berlin during the week of August 8-12, 2016 (plus a precourse for PhD students and other non-experts on the preceding weekend). The focus of the workshop will be on Symplectic Homology, including lecture series by Tobias Ekholm, Mark McLean, and Alex Oancea, and additional speakers to be confirmed. [Read more…]

Jason Lotay to speak in the geometry seminar, 29/09/15

The next speaker in the geometry seminar is Jason Lotay (from University College London) who will speak about The Laplacian flow in G2 geometry. Reading seminar on Wednesday 23rd September

The next reading seminar will take place at 11am on Wednesday 23rd September (and not in our usual Tuesday slot). It will be held in the Salle des Profs on the 9th floor of building NO. Michael Khanevsky will present the paper Renormalized area and properly embedded minimal surfaces in hyperbolic 3-manifolds by Alexakis and Mazzeo.

We are still looking for speakers or suggestions of articles for more reading seminars later in the term, so if you have ideas, please get in touch!

Save the date: Brussels-London 8 will be held on 1 December

The 8th Brussels-London seminar will take place on 1st December, in Brussels. The theme is lower bounds on Ricci curvature and we already have two confirmed speakers: Andrea Mondino (ETH Zurich, Switzerland) and Fabio Cavalletti (Pavia, Italy). More details will be available soon, but in the meantime, please save the date!

The department of mathematics is in building NO, on the Campus de la Plaine, of the Université libre de Bruxelles. The geometry group is on the 7th floor. This page has a map of the campus as well as information on how to reach it via public transport. See the STIB website for more information on public transport in Brussels.

The department of mathematics is in building NO, on the Campus de la Plaine, of the Université libre de Bruxelles. The geometry group is on the 7th floor. This map shows NO, as well as the metro station Delta and entrance 2, which is right by the stop for the number 71 and 72 buses. The number 95 also stops a short walk from the department. See the STIB website for more information on public transport in Brussels.
