Higher geometric structures in Leuven

The 7th meeting of “Higher geometric structures along the Lower Rhine” will take place at KU Leuven on April 7-8 (2016).

You can find more details on the workshop webpage, where you should also go to register. (The deadline for requesting financial support is Monday 29 February.) The main local organiser is Marco Zambon who you can also contact for more information.

Lower Ricci working group, talk 2

The working group on manifolds with lower bounds on Ricci curvature will continue on Wednesday 17th Feb, again 11h-13h in the Salle de Profs (9th floor, building NO). We finally turn to Riemannian geometry. I (Joel) will talk about the Bochner formula, the (local) Laplacian comparison theorem, the Bishop-Gromov volume comparison theorem and finally Gromov’s precompactness theorem for Riemannian manifolds with lower bounds on Ricci curvature.

The following people have kindly agreed to give talks:

  • 24th Feb, Bruno Premoselli
  • 2nd March, Ben Sibley
  • 9th March, Michael Khanevsky

That still leaves three slots free, so don’t hesitate, volunteer today! Hope to see you all at the next talk.

Lower Ricci working group, talk 1

The working group on manifolds with lower bounds on Ricci curvature will start on Wednesday 10th February, 11h-13h in the Salle de Profs. Joel will give the first talk, which will be on Gromov’s precompactness theorem for manifolds with lower bounds on Ricci curvature.

During this meeting we will also fix the schedule of speakers for the other talks. Remember, the idea is for informal talks in which we all ask questions; the speaker is not expected to have mastered the material, the goal is to learn together. If you want to come, but don’t want to give a talk you are more than welcome.

The room is booked for Wednesdays, 11h-13h, every week up to and including the 30th March, by which time we’ll all be experts, surely! The full schedule is available on the reading seminar webpage.
