PhD position available in geometry

The differential geometry group at the ULB is looking to recruit a PhD student to start in October 2018, with full funding for 4 years, with no associated teaching duties. The successful candidate will work with Joel Fine on a PhD in geometric analysis.

The position is funded by an “Excellence of Science” grant titled “Symplectic techniques in differential geometry” and so will be on a project related to this research. Topics include Einstein metrics, minimal surfaces, J-holomorphic curves, twistor geometry.

  • Your CV
  • A list of all the courses you have followed in the last two years (including grades, when available).
  • A brief description of any project or masters thesis that you may have carried out
  • A letter of motivation, no longer than 2 pages, providing information about your mathematical interests.
  • The names of two referees who should send their letters of recommendation directly to Joel Fine, to arrive by the application deadline of 20th February.

The department of mathematics is in building NO, on the Campus de la Plaine, of the Université libre de Bruxelles. The geometry group is on the 7th floor. The department of mathematics is in building NO, on the Campus de la Plaine, of the Université libre de Bruxelles. The geometry group is on the 7th floor. This map shows NO, as well as the metro station Delta and entrance 2, which is right by the stop for the number 71 and 72 buses. The number 95 also stops a short walk from the department. See the STIB website for more information on public transport in Brussels.
