Part time post at University of Liverpool Mathematics department

The mathematics department of the University of Liverpool is looking to fill a part-time 2-year teaching and research post. Details are below.

The Math Department of the University of Liverpool is advertising a part-time Teaching & Scolarship post limited to 2 years, to begin in September 2016.

You are encouraged to circulate it to suitable candidates. If you intend to do so, please highlight the following points.

  1. The post is part-time 50%, so the gross salary is actually £16,300-£18,884 per year.
  2. Due to border agency legislation and to the requirements of the role, we are only able to appoint citizens from the UK or from the EU.
  3. This is a teaching post. The main duty is teaching 1 module every semester for 2 years (and possibly one tutorial group). The main criterion for the appointment is evidence of teaching excellence.
  4. The modules are MATH241 – Metric Spaces and Calculus (Semester 1) and MATH340 – Riemann Surfaces (Semester 2). The former is basic material in real analysis that every mathematician is familiar with, and the expected class size is 100-150 students. The latter is a more specialized module, and the main task is to gently introduce our Year 3 cohort of students to material that could potentially be challenging. The expected class size is 30-40 students. Familiarity with standard undergraduate material on Riemann Surfaces is desirable.
