Saman Esfahani (Duke) will speak in the geometry seminar on 4th March. Saman’s talk will be online (since he is in the US at the moment). We will try and arange for everyone to watch together in the Salle des Profs, 9th floor of building NO. Saman’s title is “On the Donaldson-Scaduto conjecture” and his abstract is below.
Motivated by collapsing G2-manifolds with K3 fibrations in the adiabatic setting, Donaldson and Scaduto conjectured the existence of a special Lagrangian pair of pants in the Calabi-Yau 3-fold $X \times \mathbb{C}$, where X is an A2-type ALE hyperkähler 4-manifold. After a short introduction to the subject, we discuss the significance of this conjecture to the study of Calabi-Yau 3-folds and G2-manifolds and then give proof of this conjecture. This is based on a joint paper with Yang Li.
