Plinio G.P. Murillo (Universität Bern, Switzerland) will speak in the geometry seminar on the 8th of May. The talk will take place in the Salle de Profs (9th floor, NO) at 13.30pm. Plinio’s title is On arithmetic manifolds with large systole and his abstract is below.
In this talk we will discuss how to construct hyperbolic manifolds with simple closed geodesics of large length. The idea we are interested in was used by P. Buser and P. Sarnak in dimension 2 and involves number theoretical tools. The talk is intended to explore this idea and how it could be generalized to higher dimensions.
