Marco Zambon to speak in the geometry seminar, 3/11/2015

Marco Zambon, from KU Leuven, will speak in the geometry seminar on Tuesday 3rd November at 2pm. The talk will be in O8.08 on the 8th floor of NO. Please note the unusual room which we are using whilst the Salle de Profs is being renovated.

Marco’s title is “Multisymplectic manifolds, homotopy moment maps, and conserved quantities”; his abstract follows.

Multisymplectic structures are higher generalizations of symplectic structures, where forms of higher degree are considered. We introduce a notion of moment map for such structures, based on Stasheff’s notion of L-infinity algebra, and by relating it to equivariant cohomology we are able to produce examples. Even though moment maps are quite involved, they admit a simplecohomological description. Finally, we discuss some geometric implications of our moment maps (the existence of conserved quantities).

I hope to see you all there!

I would also like to ask you for suggestions for speakers for seminars in the following term. If you have anyone you would like to invite then please let me know.
