Jason Lotay (Oxford) will give the geometry seminar on 29th September, at 2pm in the Salle des Profs (9th floor of building NO). Jason’s title is “The heterotic SU(3) moduli space” and his abstract is below.
The heterotic SU(3) system is a complicated collection of partial differential equations coupling ambient complex geometry in 6 dimensions with gauge theoretic equations. It arises from String Theory and is proposed to have intriguing applications to geometry, particularly Reid’s fantasy. However, the system is currently rather poorly understood. I will describe some recent joint work with de Lazari, Sa Earp and Svanes which studies one of the fundamental questions regarding the heterotic SU(3) system and its potential applications, namely its moduli space of solutions.
