Federico Trinca to speak in the geometry seminar 06/05/2024

Federico Trinca (University College London) will speak in the geometry seminar at 2pm on 6th May, in the Salle des Profs (9th floor, building NO). Federico’s title is “Associative submanifolds in G2 manifolds with symmetries” and his abstract is below.

Similarly to Calabi-Yau 3-folds in dimension 6, G2 manifolds are certain 7-dimensional manifolds that appear in the Berger list of possible Riemannian holonomy groups; they are Ricci-flat and admit special 3-dimensional stable minimal submanifolds, which are called associative submanifolds. In this talk, I will explain how to “indirectly” use symmetries to construct and understand the properties of these submanifolds in the cohomogeneity one G2 manifolds recently constructed by Foscolo-Haskins-Nordström. This is joint work with B. Aslan.

The department of mathematics is in building NO, on the Campus de la Plaine, of the Université libre de Bruxelles. The geometry group is on the 7th floor. This map shows NO, as well as the metro station Delta and entrance 2, which is right by the stop for the number 71 and 72 buses. The number 95 also stops a short walk from the department. See the STIB website for more information on public transport in Brussels.
