David González Álvaro will speak in the geometry seminar on Thursday 12th June at 2pm in the Salle Debever (7th floor of building NO). Please note both the unusual day and room! David’s title is “Title: “Ricci flow and positive curvature” and his abstract is below.
Since the introduction of the Ricci flow by Hamilton in 1982, it has been a fundamental question to understand which curvature conditions are preserved under the flow. In this talk we focus on the notion of positive sectional curvature. After reviewing classical results, we will show that there exist positively curved homogeneous metrics on the Aloff-Wallach and Berger spaces which evolve under the Ricci flow to metrics with non-positively curved planes. This is joint work with Masoumeh Zarei.
