Lower Ricci working group talk 4, held on 2 March

On 2nd March, 10h30-12h30, Salle des Profs, Ben Sibley gave the fourth talk in the working group on manifolds with lower Ricci bounds. He discussed the Cheng-Yau gradient estimate, quantitative maximum principles and the existence of special cut-off functions, all necessary technical ingredients for the almost splitting theorem which will be the topic of a future talk.

Ingrid Daubechies to speak at the ULB

Ingrid Daubechies, a mathematician and physicist from Duke University, will give a talk for a general audience at the ULB. The title is “Reconnaissance et restauration de tableaux anciens à l’aide des mathématiques”. The event will take place from 10-12, on Saturday 12 March in Auditorium F of the Forum, on the Campus de la Plaine. Daubechies is a renowned mathematician with a whole host of prizes and this is an excellent opportunity to hear her talk.

The department of mathematics is in building NO, on the Campus de la Plaine, of the Université libre de Bruxelles. The geometry group is on the 7th floor. This page has a map of the campus as well as information on how to reach it via public transport. See the STIB website for more information on public transport in Brussels.

The department of mathematics is in building NO, on the Campus de la Plaine, of the Université libre de Bruxelles. The geometry group is on the 7th floor. This map shows NO, as well as the metro station Delta and entrance 2, which is right by the stop for the number 71 and 72 buses. The number 95 also stops a short walk from the department. See the STIB website for more information on public transport in Brussels.
