On 2nd March, 10h30-12h30, Salle des Profs, Ben Sibley gave the fourth talk in the working group on manifolds with lower Ricci bounds. He discussed the Cheng-Yau gradient estimate, quantitative maximum principles and the existence of special cut-off functions, all necessary technical ingredients for the almost splitting theorem which will be the topic of a future talk.

Ingrid Daubechies, a mathematician and physicist from Duke University, will give a talk for a general audience at the ULB. The title is “Reconnaissance et restauration de tableaux anciens à l’aide des mathématiques”. The event will take place from 10-12, on Saturday 12 March in Auditorium F of the Forum, on the Campus de la Plaine. Daubechies is a renowned mathematician with a whole host of prizes and this is an excellent opportunity to hear her talk.
Vincent Humilière will talk in the geometry seminar on 1st March 2016. The talk will be held from 2-3 in the Salle de Profs (9th floor, building NO). Vincent’s title is “A C^0 counter example to the Arnold conjecture” and his abstract is below. [Read more…]
