Christoph Böhm (Münster) will speak in the geometry seminar. This talk is on an unusual day and at an unusual time! It will take place on Thursday 27th November, at 12.30pm, in the Salle des Profs (9th floor, building NO). Christoph’s title is “The cohomogeneity one Einstein ODE” and his abstract is below.
For a Riemannian manifold (M,g) the Einstein equation ric(g)=λ g is (weakly) elliptic. Assuming symmetry this second order PDE simplifies: If the Riemannian manifold is homogeneous the Einstein equation turns into an algebraic equation. If the Riemannian manifold is of cohomogeneity one, the Einstein equation becomes a highly non-linear dynamical system, the cohomogeneity one Einstein ODE. In this talk I will present general structure results for the cohomogeneity one Einstein ODE both for positive and non-positive Einstein constant λ.
